Traveler Food: Chicken, Eggs, Rice, Vegetables

People sometimes ask me about the different kinds of food that I eat while traveling. I often do not know how to answer their questions as I pretty much eat the same food no matter where I am.

Chicken, eggs, rice, and vegetables are among the cheapest foods to eat almost anywhere on the planet.

I try to save as much money as possible, as I know that it is far easier to save $20 than it is to make $20. So I eat chicken, eggs, rice, and vegetables.

I try to eat what the working people eat when traveling, and this is usually some combination of an abundant meat (usually always chicken, sometimes lamb, sometimes beef, sometimes yak), a starch (rice, bread, noodles, couscous), and vegetables or fruit. As a traveler without many cooking or food preservation resources, it is often times far easier to just eat chicken, eggs, rice, and vegetables everyday regardless of country or continent.

This seems to be the cheapest alternative.

Eggs are cheap food

If I am a guest in someone’s home, then I have the opportunity to taste local dishes as they are really made. This is one of the major benefits of couchsurfing. To purchase all of the ingredients for such meals on my own usually results in spending far too much money and wasting quantities of unused food. To purchase this food in a restaurant is sometimes a little costly.

When I cook for myself, it is chicken, eggs, rice (or starch alternative), and vegetables.
