I’m hoping you can help me with a student visa question for Italy. My daughter is going to Rome for a study abroad program that begins September 1st. She is going a month early to do independent research on a fellowship she was awarded from her (American) college. The embassy here in DC says they can only give her the student visa beginning on September 1st since her independent research month is not connected to an Italian institution. But the embassy guy says he can’t guarantee that the immigration officer at the airport will let her in as a tourist for that month…even though she has a letter from her college re: the fellowship and a lease for an apartment. What do you think we should do? Do we just take our chances and hope she gets in??????
