Discover Why People Keep Coming Back to Palm Cove

Explore the coast of Tropical North Queensland.

Palm Cove

Some holiday destinations just have so much allure they make people want to visit them again and again. Whether it’s for the activities on offer, the incredible sights to see, the energy of place, or a combination of all of these, there are just some places you can’t help but return to. Palm Cove is one of these destinations.

Located on the coast of Tropical North Queensland, Palm Cove is a sleepy seaside village that is often likened to paradise. While it’s certainly a destination that people come to for some much needed relaxation and rejuvenation, you can’t let its laidback air fool you. Palm Cove’s destination is smack bang between two cities – Port Douglas and Cairns – and two of the world’s most incredible natural attractions – the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics.

So, as you can imagine, there is so much to see and do. Keep reading to find out why people keep coming back to Palm Cove for their holidays.

See the Marine Life at the Great Barrier Reef Up Close

If seeing the incredible Great Barrier Reef is on your bucket list, then Palm Cove is one of the best places you can go to make this a reality. Palm Cove’s location being halfway between Port Douglas and Cairns means that you have many different ways you can experience the Reef right at your fingertips.

Sunset sailing, helicopter rides, snorkeling, scuba diving, outer reef tours, fishing charters and glass bottom boat rides are only some of the different ways you can see the majestic reef for yourself.

Whether you want to get up close to this underwater world or you would prefer to stay dry, there’s a way for you to discover the amazing world of the Great Barrier Reef.

Chase the Waterfalls of the Rainforest

There are lots of things Queensland is known for – white sand beaches, incredible weather all year long and luscious rainforests to name a few. And tucked away in these rainforests, you will find another of these attractions – waterfalls!

The rainforests of the Wet Tropics are home to literally hundreds of waterfalls – in fact, you’d be hard pressed to find anywhere in Australia with more waterfalls than Tropical North Queensland. And when you’re in Palm Cove, you’re within an hour’s drive of many of the most gorgeous waterfalls you will ever see. Bathe in the natural rock pools while the mist of the waterfall’s spray washes over you – there’s no better way to spend a sunny day in Queensland.

Discover the Local Wildlife

Australia is known for having some unique wildlife and Queensland is a great place to meet some of these furry, feathery and scaly friends.

While you can take your chances to meet some of the animals out in the wild, TNQ is home to some great wildlife parks where you can get up close to the wildlife – safely, of course.

From Palm Cove, you can visit Koala Gardens to meet and greet some gorgeous furry friends. Or you can visit Birdworld in Kuranda to see some of the most exotic bird species in the world. Or you can even discover the sheer strength and power of the local crocs at Hartley’s Crocodile Farm!

If you’re an animal lover, Palm Cove is the perfect place to get close to the local wildlife.

Travel in Style Aboard a Vintage Train or Sky High Gondola

When it comes to adventure, the journey is just as important as the destination. And when you’re in Palm Cove, one of the most unique journeys you can take is to Kuranda. Kuranda is a rainforest village located in the misty mountains not too far from Palm Cove. You can, of course, choose to drive there, but we definitely suggest taking a seat aboard the vintage Kuranda Scenic Railway. You’ll wind your way to Kuranda through the luscious rainforest where you will have amazing views of the scenery, including the thunderous Barron Falls Waterfall.

For the journey back from Kuranda, instead of taking the train, hop in a gondola of the Skyrail Cableway so you can experience the rainforest from a whole new angle. You’ll float above the rainforest canopy and explore from new heights. And speaking of heights – if you can handle them, go for a glass bottomed gondola to really feel like you’re flying.

Recuperate at the Reef House

After sightseeing and adventures, you’re going to need a little relaxation and rejuvenation, and there is no better place to relax than at the luxury hotel nears Cairns, the Reef House.

The colonial style beachfront property is an icon of Palm Cove and also happens to be home to the award-winning Reef House Spa. People travel far and wide to experience the treatments and rituals of the spa at the Reef House. And when you visit the spa for yourself, you will totally understand why. It is a must do when you’re in Palm Cove.

If you’re planning your next holiday, consider visiting Palm Cove to see why people keep on coming back to this incredible slice of paradise!
