Boots are our forgotten friends. If you have a good pair you never think about them. They carry on day after day being used and abused soaking up our sweat and then being discarded under your bunk.

These boots are my forgotten friends I have had them for over a year now and haven’t given them a second thought as they’ve plowed their way through snow, mud and sand, down roads, beaches and forest paths. They do all that you ask without complaining (or breaking!).

Now I must admit before I go any further that I am a huge fan of Trespass gear. I have always found the customer service excellent and the products very good value for money. I’ve had boots that were twice the price from much more respected companies (you know who you are Karrimor!) that haven’t lasted or performed anywhere near as good as these.

So for some technical info. These boots are made from a mix of suede uppers with rubber lowers and feature a “hydroguard membrane”. This is pretty much standard on most boots now and just means they let sweat out but don’t let water in. However please be aware that these boots (and other breathable boots) are only breathable if you wear breathable socks. They come in men’s sizes 5 -12 and the sizing is comparable with most makes of shoe.

Mine have never let water in (apart from when I fell in a river!) and are incredible comfortable and the grip hasn’t worn down at all even after loads of road walking with a heavy pack.

With Suede uppers it is always recommended that a couple of times a year you should treat them with a waterproofing spray. However I must confess I only did mine once, about a month after I got them and haven’t done them since and there has been no ill effects.

The Good and the Bad of Trespass Boots

Good

  • Comfortable
  • Waterproof
  • Low – Maintenance
  • Looks
  • Durability

Bad

  • Really only the list price but if you shop around you can get them much cheaper

In summary these boots are excellent value and if you shop around you can find them much cheaper than their list price. I wouldn’t recommend them for truly hot countries unless you go the extra mile and buy breathable socks. However for trips round Europe, North America etc they are perfect. You could spend more but why bother unless you like brand names on your gear and less money in your pocket!
