Though, while having extensive experience with all three forms of web income, it is my impression that it is the latter option that I hope to depend on. If I hope to accomplish the goal of publishing Vagabond Journey full time, I need to open up more avenues for, as well as encourge, reader contributions.

Voluntary reader contributions is quickly becoming the way that many forms of independent media fund themselves. 90 million people gave money to NPR last year when they could have just taken the programming for free. I suppose this hoard of people must have figured it worth sparing a few bucks to keep a media source that they enjoyed going strong, and being offered free of charge.

This is the new media business model: you work your fingers to the bone putting together good content and then you offer it up to everyone for free. You then hope that they appreciate it and want you to continue publishing — that they voluntarily provide the money you need to stay in business.

It costs money and incredible amounts of time working on this website. I have a family now, I need to make money.
