SUCHITOTO, EL Salvador- With a little hope, love, sweat, and blood the goal is to be making enough money by the end of this year to live and travel off of Vagabond Journey.com. Yo si puedo. The strategy is to make as much as we possibly can from advertising, affiliate programs, and reader contributions. Though, while having extensive experience with all three forms of web income, it is my impression that it is the latter option that I hope to depend on. If I hope to accomplish the goal of publishing Vagabond Journey full time, I need to open up more avenues for, as well as encourge, reader contributions.

Please subscribe or donate to Vagabond Journey

Voluntary reader contributions is quickly becoming the way that many forms of independent media fund themselves. 90 million people gave money to NPR last year when they could have just taken the programming for free. I suppose this hoard of people must have figured it worth sparing a few bucks to keep a media source that they enjoyed going strong, and being offered free of charge.

This is the new media business model: you work your fingers to the bone putting together good content and then you offer it up to everyone for free. You then hope that they appreciate it and want you to continue publishing — that they voluntarily provide the money you need to stay in business.

In a world oversaturated with websites, internet advertising sells cheap — it is difficult to make a living through ads alone. It is now time to revert to a classic strategy for funding media operations within the frame of the new media model: subscriptions.

Vagabond Journey.com will soon become a subscription funded enterprise. There truly is not another option — believe me when I say that I’ve tried them.

The cost to subscribe to Vagabond Journey

The suggested cost to subscribe to Vagabond Journey.com is cheap: one dollar per week, 15 cents a day is all that is needed from you. If I could get a subscription from each reader then I could afford work on this website full time and travel comfortably with my family.

Just 15 cents a day is all we need from you to make this dream a reality.

“People drop 15 cents a day on the ground everyday and don’t think it is worth picking it up,” my cousin in law stated when I told him of how I was going to support his kin on the back of Vagabond Journey.com.

If you have a dime and a nickel each day to spare, please subscribe to Vagabond Journey. 15 cents a day, $1 a week, or around $5 a month is all we need to continue publishing. If each reader could make this donation, Chaya, Petra, and I can make our ends meet just from working on the website — we could travel the world, publish daily, AND keep our fractions constant.

Believe me when I say that these subscriptions are NEEDED. I am not making a greedy request. This website is a business, to keep it afloat we need to make money: we need 15 cents a day from each reader.

Please donate or subscribe to Vagabond Journey.

$5 a month is the rate for a basic subscription, if you would like to donate more other plans would be very much appreciated.

What you get for subscribing

For a subscription to Vagabond Journey.com I will continue publishing 1 to 3 entries on the travelogue daily, 50 travel photos three or four times a week, answer any questions that you may have, put up Wiki Vagabond guides, develop and maintain the website, and act as your personal travel consultant throughout the year.

It costs money and incredible amounts of time working on this website. I have a family now, I need to make money.

A single US dollar a week is all we need from you to keep Vagabond Journey going.
I will willing — no, happy — to work on this website for 8 hours a day indefinitely if I can make the money to sustain both the site and myself. This website is what I like to do. I just need to make more money at it. This is the trick, this is what defines an occupation from a hobby. It is not possible for me to maintain a hobby of this magnitude — I am a father, a husband, and a full time traveler — I need to make Vagabondjourney.com into an occupation.

“I know Wade, and I know he will succeed, because he is sort of a hermit type writer, he goes into his cave and works continuously, hard to fail when you never stop working.” -Hobotraveler on Wade

My friend Andy Hobotraveler.com wrote the above statement. He is correct, I will be successful because I won’t stop working. This website is what I have decided to make a living at — I will do it, failure or success is irrelevant, I will keep working until I make enough money to support my family from Vagabondjourney.com. It is just a matter of time, effort, putting out the pages, working until I succeed.

We need your support. If you are a regular reader, or if you are just stopping by for the first time, please considering making a one dollar a week donation. 15 pennies a day is all we need. If a good handful of readers could make this donation it would keep us traveling, and it would allow us to continue publication into another year.

Please subscribe today.

Thank you!

Walk Slow,

Wade and family

    Wade and Family,
Hello and I was thinking about you and your donation drive. Linux Mint has a clever donor plan that keeps track of who is the top donors by country and persons. Plus you get to list your website when you donate. It is kinda like a contest. Take a look for yourself and it might be an idea. I know you are going to make it Wade and Family. Remember “walk slow!” http://linuxmint.com/donors.php

    Take care,

    Scott

That is a great way of managing and encouraging donations! We will put up something like that to further acknowledge our appreciation, and to add an extra incentive for contributing.

      Thanks for sharing this!

We will keep trying until we make this work haha. Thanks also for all of your help over the years.

      Walk Slow,

      Wade
