LinkI just purchased a large heated chicken sub and french fries for 200 pesos, $5.75, in Sosua. In the beach towns of the north, restaurant food does not seem to sell too cheaply.

To make matters worse, the grocery stores in Sosua are also highly overpriced when compared to most places in the world. I saw a loaf of bad looking processed bread for 4 USD. But, then again, the Dominican Republic is an island country, and it probably is costly to import processed food.
We are coming up with a food strategy for traveling here, and we are probably spending far less money than most foreigners who are eating in restaurants at 10 USD a meal, but we are still spending more that what we would like.
Keep the high cost of food in mind when planning on traveling to the Dominican Republic.

There are cheap options when it comes to food in the Dominican Republic, you just need to devise a strategy to find them. I pretty much lived off of beans and rice, sausages and vegetables. In all, I think that I was paying around 5 dollars a day for thee good meals, but of course I needed to cook them myself.
