The Easy Way

MUSCAT, Oman- Furkan Duzgun — I don’t know if that’s his real name — decided that he wanted to study at the famous film school of Roman Polanski in Lodz, Poland. But in order to study at this school you need to speak Polish. Furkan is from Turkey. Furkan didn’t speak Polish.

But this didn’t mean he was going to just say “oh well” and go study at some other film school that teaches in some language that he could speak. That’s what most people would do. Furkan isn’t most people.

He spent a year learning Polish.

“Wait. You just sat around for a year learning a new fucking language?”

Yup.

Then Furkan attended the film school, got what he was after, and recently graduated. Now he travels around the world doing commercial filming.

This is how you obtain success at anything. Obstacles are normal. Accomplishments are a series of steps. The road ahead is always opaque and risky and the likelihood of success is always dubious at best. The only think that is guaranteed is that some people will make it through to the end. Why not you?

The easy way is easier but that isn’t the point.
