Sun Seekers: Where to take your spring holiday

Winter is over so where should you go?

The weather might be warming up but you could still do with some guaranteed sun. This means a trip abroad to sunnier shores. Not only is it great fun but it’s also good for your mental health and in relieving stress – whether you’re going with your partner to an exclusive resort or taking a solo trip. So where should you book that spring break? Here are a few suggestions, all of them ideal for some pre-summer sun, rest and relaxation.

Gran Canaria

The Canary Islands enjoy warm temperatures all year round and the island of Gran Canaria is no exception with highs of 20 and lows of 14°C – perfect for sun worshippers. This location has it all with beautiful beaches to spend the day at – 80 in total according to the latest blog from Travel Republic – as well as national parks to explore.

There are also water parks to enjoy including Aqualand and Lago Oasis Waterpark – featuring slides and pools to spend the day playing around in. If you’re more of a thrill seeker, book onto a buggy tour in Fataga Nature Park and zoom through hills and palm groves for the afternoon or head to Maspalomas for a 40 minute tour of the dunes and to ride some camels!

Dominican Republic

This gorgeous Caribbean island offers luxury, sand and sea with stunning beaches and great nightlife for those who love to dance. Relax on the beach, with a cocktail in hand, and make everyone envious back home while they deal with the temperamental weather – temperatures in the Dominican Republic can see highs of 29 and lows of 21°C; great if you love to catch a tan.

Plan a trip to one of the islands’ stunning national parks or hike to Hoyo Azul and see the stunning blue lagoon that resides there for yourself; here, you can take a dip in the inviting crystal clear waters. If you prefer a little culture, visit La Aurora cigar factory for a tour or visit the beautiful Catedral Primada de America if you are staying in the Santo Domingo area.

New Orleans

It’s a more unusual location for a getaway but one that is sure to see you return home with lots of stories and pictures to share. Temperatures vary but in February you can expect to enjoy highs of 19 and lows of 9°C.

In February, the destination is enhanced by Mardis Gras taking place on February 28th but the grand, colourful parades do start a few days before. The city itself offers plenty of incredible architecture and culture to enjoy and explore. Plan a visit to the French Quarter or the Louisiana Swamps to see another side to New Orleans.

Benidorm

There’s far more to see and do in Benidorm than just drink all day and eat English food. This location has become associated with the louder tourists but it offers something for everyone and spring is the perfect time to visit. It’s not as busy and the temperature is still enjoyable – with highs of 16 and an average of 12°C. It’s not quite tanning all day weather but it is warm enough to explore the fishing villages for the day and sample the restaurants dotted along the main beaches.

Ready to plan that last minute trip away in spring? Choose one of these destinations and you won’t regret it if you love the sun!
