Study Abroad, Research, Go to University in Maldives
The achipelago nation of the Maldives is not a typical study abroad destination. In fact, the government has a program to send students to study abroad in nearby countries like India and Sri Lanka and then return to the Maldives. However, if you are interested in studying abroad in the Maldives, the best strategy is to meet with your educational advisor at your home university and discuss possibilities. There are internships and volunteer opportunities that you might be able to talk your way into earning university credit for. Possible topics include marine studies, tourism, the Dihevi language or sustainable development.
Alternatively, there is one Maldivian university. The Maldives National University was just inaugurated in February 2011, but was previously a college since 1999. It is located in the capital city of Male and offers programs in education, marine studies, arts, Islamic studies, engineering, tourism, health and management.
