America is a mecca for motorcycle enthusiasts – in fact there are over 8 million people that ride on two wheels in the country. This means that there are plenty of major motorcycle rallies to choose from every year – you could quite easily spend an extended vacation touring the best ones. The biggest rallies offer not only rideouts and displays, but also vendors, entertainment and big name music acts. All these rallies have one thing in common – the people that attend are united by one joyous and peaceful thing – the smell of exhausts and the deep growl of an engine. It’s all for the love of bike.
Sturgis Motorcycle Rally
Deep in the South Dakota Black Hills is the home of the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Every year, more than half a million people are made welcome at the rally, that has something for everyone. There are some great spectacle events including a ramp jump competition and the prestigious half mile race. Sturgis is also a massive fundraising event for charities and groups in the local area – every year the rally raises more than $800 million. This year’s event takes place from 2-11th August. Concerts at the rally include the legendary Skid Row, Keith Urban, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, and Snoop Dogg. Sturgis is a rally for those united by motorcycles – an inclusive event and a great atmosphere.
Laconia Motorcycle Week
Laconia is the oldest motorcycle rally in America. Situated at the state’s largest lake – Winnipesaukee in New England, the rally is definitely quirky and unique. There is live music at various venues locally, every day, from noon through til midnight and a plethora of food vendors. Events at Laconia include the Annual Cystic Fibrosis Trail Ride, which raises valuable funds for families in the New England area that are affected by the disease. There is also the Peter Makris memorial ride that raises money for the Laconia Fire Department. Taking part in these rideouts on your motorcycle is not only great fun, but also essential for these charities.
Myrtle Beach Bike Week
If there’s ever a rally that teaches us that you’re never too old to ride, it’s Myrtle Beach Bike Week. The bi-annual rally takes place every year in May and October. It is a vibrant community rally that often attracts the older generation of bikers, which means you get to see some old timers, as well as the newest bike models by famous manufacturers. There are ride-outs, custom competitions, drag racing and stunt displays, as well as plenty of live music, vendors and entertainment. Now in its 80th year, the rally is a true spectacle that welcomes motorcycle enthusiasts of all ages.
