Company Info

Regatta are one of the largest outdoor clothing companies in Europe.  It is a family run business that has a range reaching from children to adults and socks to backpacks. Regatta exports all over the world so their products are available in most outdoor stores wherever you are.

Our Opinion

Please note for the purposes of this review that the women’s version of these shorts is exactly the same but with a slightly different cut.

These are another item of clothing where the RRP can be a little mis-leading, I have regularly seen these shorts for as little as £20. For this price these are an excellent pair of active shorts, ideally suited to running, hiking etc.

The water repllant feature of the fabric works very well for sudden showers and when they are wet they dry very very quickly which is always useful, whilst providing excellent factor 40 sun protection.

Something I particularly like and this may sound like a middle aged thing to say, but I really like the part-elasticated waist on these shorts. Before we tested these I had never given it much thought but it is actually a very useful feature, providing a better fit and easy access  for the dreaded travellers stomach (too much detail?).

On the subject or fit these shorts come to half way down the thigh so they are much more of an active fit allowing freedom of movement and keeping the weight very low. The fabric has a good amount of stretch especially in a product that is water resistant, with many garments with these features a compromise has to be made between the two and Regatta seem to have gotten the balance just right. The company should also be complimented on the huge size ranges you can get this short in whether your aerodynamic or had a few too many butter chickens from the market stall you will definitely get a pair in your size.

These shorts have 3 pockets, 2 jeans style pockets and one cargo pouch. This is sufficient for running, hiking etc. but for a longer trip I would get frustrated with having to keep everything in my pack.

The highlight of these shorts is the fabric. It’s quite remarkable how it can repel water, dry quickly, allow breathing and provide factor 40 sun protection whilst also being comfortable.

The Good and the Bad of  Geo Extol Mountain Short

Regatta - Geo Extol Mountain Short (Women)

Good

  • Excellent Fabric
  • Elasticated Waist
  • Good Size Choices
  • Classic Looks

Bad

  • Lack Of Pockets
  • Short Inner Leg Length

Summary

These are a great product from Regatta for the active user. They are ideally suited to outdoor activities and whilst they may lack in practical features for long term travel they are excellent for what they have been designed for. If your a runner, hiker or climber or on a shorter trip they are an item well worth considering, especially when you take in to account the price I found of £20 you can get them for on-line. At this price you would be very hard pushed to find another pair of shorts with all the features of the Geo Extol Mountain Shorts.

Those quick dry fabrics are excellent! I did not give them much thought for a long time, but now I find them indispensable! They are worth the extra $$.

They are great I’m just testing another pair from Gelert that are £25 that are quick drying, insect repellent, have sun protection and our breathable. Bargain! Will be up soon!
