What to do when out in the woods.

Cozying up in a cabin is a tradition that many families enjoy in the winter. It’s a chance to spend quality time together, but what can you do beyond sipping hot chocolate or playing endless games?
Bundle up and head outside–there are countless outdoor cabin activities that you can enjoy, such as tobogganing, ice fishing, and snowman-building. In this post, we’ll explore some of the best things to do in your cottage this winter season. Just remember to stay protected with cabin insurance before you head out for the holidays!
Skating
For cabin owners who live by a large body of water, you can strap on your ice skates and glide on the ice. Skating on a frozen lake or pond is a novel activity, and it’s a fantastic opportunity to take in the wonders of nature.
In some cases, you can skate over some clear ice that gives you a peek into the environment below it! That said, if you’re going to skate outdoors, take the necessary precautions. Make sure that it’s safe to skate (the ice should be at least ten centimeters thick) and that you’re prepared for any emergencies.
Skiing or snowboarding
If your cabin is situated by the slopes, you have the option to ride down with skis or snowboards. These are two of the top outdoor winter activities, offering exhilarating experiences for both experts and novices alike. Be sure to wear the right gear!
Tobogganing
Tobogganing is a child-friendly activity that involves sliding down through snowy slopes. You can buy a toboggan from the store or build one yourself–the latter becoming another fun activity that you can do with kids! While it’s important to stay safe, older children can also bring a bit of adrenaline into their runs by adding some obstacles and attempting jumps!
Snowshoeing
Snowshoeing allows you to explore spaces that you might have never had the chance to in other seasons. When swamps, marshes, hills, and other landscapes are enveloped by snow, you get a path that you can leisurely walk through with this special footwear.
Ice fishing
Fishing isn’t just a summer activity–when the water freezes up, you can drill a hole into the ice and cast your rod in hopes of getting a bite. Ice fishing also doubles as a mini camping trip as you can set up a fishing tent near your spot for shelter when the cold bites.
Building snowmen
Building snowmen is a classic winter activity that lets you harness your creativity. If you want to go outside of the box, you can even build a snow fort!
Snowball fights
Snowball fights are one of the easiest things to do during the winter–simply roll a couple of balls and aim for your targets! To spice things up, you can make it an elaborate game, complete with teams and bases.
Campfires
When a day of outdoor winter activities comes to an end, there’s nothing quite like gathering around a campfire to rehash your experiences over some hot chocolate and comfort snacks.
