A new forum has risen from the ashes on Vagabond Journey. After having failed miserably in our last attempt to run a lively community forum on here, I did not grow too angry when Inmotion Hosting began gripping about how much of their precious server resources my paltry forum was using. One day they flipped it off, and nobody shed a tear.

Oh well, do we really need a forum on Vagabond Journey?

Regular readers of the site did not seem to mind or even notice that the forum was gone — it was pretty much just a place for travelers who overstayed their visas in Europe to concoct ways of getting out of trouble.

New Vagabond Journey Travel Forum

But now Vagabond Journey is on its own server, and we have more resources than we could ever use (the 1 terabyte hard drive we have could run 10 VJTs), I began thinking about putting up a forum once again.

The last forum alone would bring in 300 unique organic search visitors per day to the site, the problem was that they were people more interested in receiving information rather than sharing it — the pages on the forum would get a lot of visitors but there was no real community there. I learned a lot from my inability to run a lively forum the first time, and I put that knowledge to use in the new version.

Visit the new Travel Questions Forum.

Rather than having four groups and like 50 independent forums, the new VJT forum is just one single topic, generally called “travel questions.” The idea is that readers and visitors can ask ANY question they have about traveling — from gear to destinations to budget to working and making money on the road to anything — and myself and, hopefully, the VJT community can provide advice. I want this to be a community project where, through our collected advice, everyone can learn to travel a little better.

We’ve just received our first question on the new version of this forum. It is at Getting ready for travel. Please go to this page, read what has already been posted there, and contribute your recommendations.

All too often, one traveler’s question can be of pertinence to a great many of us traveling the world. Prepare for your travels ahead and share what you have learned from your travels past.

Please participate in Vagabond Journey’s new Travel Questions Forum.
