Mongui is a small village in the Boyaca region of Colombia. Nestled in the mountains, it is a colonial village with a Cathedral on the main square. Mongui has features excellent hiking in the mountains surrounding the town and a high level desert or paramo, not very far away. There are also several small scale soccer ball factories in the town, and many shops that sell the local balls. Mongui is far off the tourist trails, and is a beautiful place to get away from everything for a little while.

To reach Mongui, take a bus or minibus to Sogamoso and ask to be let off at the stop for minibuses to Mongui. From Bogota, you might be better off taking a bus to Tunja and continuing on to Sogamoso from there.

This town looks like a great place to visit when I return to Colombia. It is not too far off the beaten path from Tunja either.
