How Americans can get out of trouble in Syria
Before departing from my couchsurfing host in Aleppo he gave me a gift.
“If you ever get into any trouble with anyone for being an American in Syria, just show them this,” he said as he handed me a cigarette lighter.
I was puzzled, as his gift seemed to just be a normal cigarette lighter that had a little LED flashlight sticking out of the bottom of it. These are very usually all throughout the world.
My couchsurfing host noticed my confusion and restated, “If you ever get into any trouble in Syria for being an American take this lighter and do this:”
And with that he shined the LED flashlight out of the bottom of the lighter and upon the wall in front of us.
There, projected upon the wall like the batman insignia over Gotham City was the bearded face of Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hesboallah.
