How Much Money do I Need to Travel in Paraguay?
Paraguay is a South American country that can be explored very cheaply. The local currency is the Guarani. As of September 2011, the exchange rate was 3,960 PAraguayan Guarani to the US dollar. A budget traveler will do alright on $15 a day, an extreme budget traveler with camping gear can do even less. A single budget hotel room in Asuncion should cost around $12. Dorms are around $7. If you are looking to stay for a little while, a small unfurnished one bedroom apartment is around $200 a month in Asuncion.
Buses are the most common form of public transport, and so are priced for affordability. Food is also cheap. Street food can be bought for $2-3 and a meal at an inexpensive restaurant is around $3-$5. You can buy a domestic beer for less than $1. In general, even the budget traveler can travel well in Paraguay.
