Cruise Vacations: A Great Option for Families

Looking for an incredible family vacation? Take a cruise!

Cruise ship

If you’re looking for an affordable family getaway that doesn’t need a lot of planning, a cruise is a wonderful option. Not only are cruises exhilarating seagoing adventures, especially if you’ve never been on one before, but they often have something for everyone. Cruise ships are floating, luxurious resorts that are often self-contained, meaning you don’t even have to get off the boat to have a good time. Within an affordable budget, you might decide to get off at a tropical island or an ancient cultural site, go island-hopping across the Mediterranean, or visit Alaska. There are many age-appropriate and supervised kids’ activities. So, what kind of things make cruises beneficial for families?

Fun for all ages

One thing is for certain: you will never hear the kids complain that they are bored while on a cruise. Aside from the amenities on a cruise ship, like unlimited free ice cream and sodas, there are also many activities on the ship for people of all ages. Kids can take part in age-appropriate activities such as arcade games and game nights, movie nights, and even slumber parties. Teens can participate in gaming competitions or dance parties, and adults can attend special events and shows. There are also many things for families to do together, like sports, swimming, family dining, and other attractions.

Affordable excursions

Has your family never been snorkeling? At one of the cruise destinations, you can try snorkeling together, going out on fishing excursions, hiking, destination tours, or shopping. Simply trying a new dish, activity, or sport can be thrilling.

Quality programs for kids and teens

Cruises have a lot for younger travelers. Celebrity Cruises has the Camp at Sea program, which arranges activities for children ages three through teens. This consists of a variety of activities in kid-only spaces, such as sporting events, arts and crafts, and themed parties. Disney Cruises excels at kid programs, often with character meet and greets and special parties for children by age. Some cruise lines provide sailor-in-training or “cadet” programs for children that bring them up to the bridge to meet the captain.

Safety First

Dropping your kids off at the kid’s club and knowing they will be looked after can make your cruise vacation relaxing for everyone. You can also rest assured knowing cruise ships are equipped with medical personal who can attend to passenger’s needs until they’ve reached shore. That said, cruise ship accidents can occur so check in with your party frequently, take caution near pools, railings and on slippery decks and know what to do if you are injured on a cruise.

Easy to plan and budget

Most cruises are all-inclusive. For the cost of the cruise, you will have everything you need, including accommodations, meals, entertainment, and even shopping on the ship. Shore excursions will be an additional fee, but this allows you to carefully plan your vacation, especially if you are on a budget. For families, cruises are an affordable option with no hidden surprises. A road trip might have unexpected expenses in the form of expensive lodging, food, or gas.

New experiences and destinations

Cruises offer the opportunity to see the world and exciting destinations you might not otherwise have visited. For example, many people in the United States have never been to the remote state of Alaska and would probably not go otherwise, if not for the fact that many cruise ships go there regularly. Disney Cruises can transport you to privately owned islands, and many cruises go to Mexico or even the Mediterranean. You can also have new experiences on the ship itself, like unique culinary experiences.

Easy Planning

Planning for cruises is often a breeze if you book through the cruise company. Quite often, booking a cruise involves just clicking a few buttons on a website, totally stress-free. Since cruises are all-inclusive vacations, you will have less planning to worry about.
