Craghoppers Tiki/Fusion- Mid-Layer Group Test

We at VJT have been dying to work with Craghoppers for a long time. Their gear has a great reputation and we felt that they were a company whose products would greatly interest our readers. Finally now after much correspondence we have had the opportunity to include some of their fleeces in this test. Craghoppers have been kind enough to allow us to test two fleeces, the first being the Men’s Fusion Plus Micro-Fleece and the second is the Women’s Tiki Half Zip Fleece. Both have the same features other than Fusion Plus which has an MP3 pocket with headphone grommet and are priced at £35.

Company Info

Craghoppers based in the UK started making clothes specifically designed for the outdoors in 1965. A group of guys in West Yorkshire were planning to climb Everest and wanted gear to withstand the harshest of conditions, so they researched and designed fabrics that would protect them from the extreme cold. All their preparation paid off as they successfully reached the summit of Everest. Craghoppers have a reputation for quality and style.

Our Opinion

Firstly I should mention the styling of these fleeces as they are stunning, both show attention to detail well above their price point of £35. Both have great detail even down to the linings they just shout quality. The designs are functional as well with both garments made from lightweight micro-fleece that is exclusive to Craghoppers and performs very well when the temperature drops feeling warm and snug and also remarkably wind proof. The Craghoppers do not have many of the features the other fleeces on test have but then they are a third of the price of the other manufacturers offerings.

The Tiki was particularly a big hit with our female tester due to the impressive embossed detail which is a large feature of the design. Our tester stated “I would of definitely brought this fleece if I had seen it in a shop” is a high accolade (especially from the woman in question!).

Conclusion

In summary, these two fleeces punch well above their weight in terms of quality, detail and styling. Whilst they may not back the technical capabilities of the more expensive offerings this is entirely forgivable bearing in mind the price. The styling makes them ideal for city breaks or an evening down the pub and you can be sure with quality like this they’ll last a lifetime.
