But the apartment we moved into is acceptably priced relative to the cost of accommodation in the area. We paid 400 USD for one month in a spacious apartment with two beds, a fridge, stove, kitchen sink, closet, and a full bathroom with a tub and hot water. There is also a clean pool in the courtyard with densely vegetated gardens around little walk ways.
This is a comfortable place to live. It is good to have an apartment where we can leave the room and walk around without having to go into the streets. Petra also likes going into the pool.
The other residents of this hotel are generally long term visitors and expats from Canada and Germany and their Dominican girlfriends. They are all good to talk with and they play with Petra a little.
My family is comfortable, there are screens on our windows and a ceiling fan keeps us cool. We paid a little extra for this room for the comfort.
400 USD for the month is 12 dollars a day — divided by three is 4 dollars per person, per day. Not bad. We are falling within out budgeted range, and are very comfortable.
This is turning out to be a good first stop on my family’s international travels.
