A few readers have brought it to my attention that the ad that should appear in the upper left hand portion of the post pages of this travelogue is overlapping the text.
I must admit that I truly have no idea what you are talking about. The ad displays properly for me in Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer.
Could someone send me a screenshot?
The ad is placed there with a WordPress plugin called “All in one Adsense,” so this is not my coding error. I just upgraded the plug-in today, so maybe that could take care of the problem?
For people who are seeing problems, could you please tell me what browser you are using and what is happening? A screenshot would be better?
I am going into the Guatemala Jungle tomorrow, so will be out of touch. If you could send some feedback tonight, I will try to fix it.

I just received a screenshot of the problem. This is what viewers using IE6 are getting.
Error of ad in IE6
Is anybody else having the pages display like this who are using a browser other than IE6?
If not, then I cannot say that this is much of a problem. The fact of the matter is that many, if not most, websites are no longer providing support for IE6. Even Google and Microsoft themselves are letting it go.
IE6 is dead, you should upgrade your browser.
It is truly difficult enough making the code of Vagabond Journey work properly in updated and supported versions of Chrome, Firefox, and IE8, so it is my impression that we will not be able to make things work for users of IE6.
For those of you who are webmasters, I am sure you understand. For those who aren’t, then please believe me when I tell you that it is really difficult to get your pages to display properly in recent, live, and supported browsers, let alone dead ones.
Please upgrade your browser.

LinkGag. IE6 is the bane of the Internet. I’m sure you’ve gotten use to your circa 2001 (release Aug ’01) Internet browsing experience.
Don’t change a snippet of code, Wade — not your problem.

I just looked over the code, and it seems good. It makes creates the space for the text to wrap around the add but sends the ad into the middle of the page????
It does seem like an error with the browser getting screwed up with the Javascript in the ad or something.
Are the other people who have experienced problems also using IE6?

Wade, code for the browsers your site gets traffic from. If 10% of your visitors are still on a browser released when you were 19 years old, then proceed as such. Look at your logs… if you’re getting < xx% of traffic from browsers (where xx% is a number only you can decide), tell 'em to deal with it (like the hundreds of thousands of other sites they can't look at properly because of their antiquated software).

I just wish the browsers could not be so difficult to synchronize a website in. I though the difficult thing about coding was learning how to do it — but the more I learn the more it seems I have yet to know haha. This internet publishing fiasco is a spider webs inside of spiderwebs endeavor.
Though perhaps this could be one of the draws of it — as soon as you’ve mastered on aspect there is just another to learn haha. A truly never ending road, there is always something more to learn how to do.
I like these bottomless projects.

Linkyep your right..IE6 is the problem …my other browsers work fine. problem solved.
but just a gentle reminder.. should things really be labelled dead if they still provide some value? I still use IE6 for several work reasons that aren’t really important to this discussion. sure it’s old , sure there are newer releases with all sorts of newer features..sure users should switch..
but is it dead?? I don’t think so..are we so technologically snotty that we can’t see value from the old? are things moving so quickly that a 10 year old version of software is labelled dead?
walk slow might apply to the use of technology also…but I realize it would be hard to do all of this blog without technology. a definite issue you probably have to deal with all the time Wade. how to move through life more simply but be on the cutting edge of technology. interesting wouldn’t you say??

Thanks for helping me out with this. I called IE6 dead just because it is no longer supported by its makers, it is just the general word that is used to describe this. No offense meant.
Good observation about traveling and living cheap and as close to the “ground” as possible but also needing to stay up to date with a constantly progressing technological landscape. This contradiction has almost broken my resolve many times. It is amazing how much time and energy I need to put into updating software, plug ins, themes, adapting everything and making it how I want it, let alone always having to make everything work in each new browser.
It almost seems that as soon as I have everything all set up and running, I need to upgrade again and do everything all over. This is becoming a never ending cycle.
The crappy part is that the browsers are not made to be compatible with each other — so a page may display great in Mozilla and then be completely broken in IE8, and then when it is all set in IE8 it breaks in Chrome. Just last week I battled this problem with the main sections of Vagabond Journey.
It is crazy how fast everything changes and how much effort it takes to keep up with it. Then throw the ever changing search engine patterns into this mix, and everything starts to spin out of control.
I just want to write, but to do so on the internet I must also need to turn techie and keep on top of and ever adapt to the constantly changing “new.”
I have no problem with IE6, it is just that I am now in a position where I need to make choices about what browsers to optimize for. I wish they could just all be synchronized with each other and all follow the same set of guidelines — but where would the competitive fun be to that? Haha.
Thanks for bringing up this error, I would not have known otherwise, and if you notice anything else that is not working as it should please let me know.
