Dear Wade,
My name is Ke Wu and I'm currently a student at Arizona State
University in the United States. I am in the midst of conducting a
research project that focuses on teaching economically and socially
disabled children, with special attention to the different approaches
used to teach these children who are not a part of the traditional
education system.
I learned about your travels from an article in Abroad View, where I
also found your website and contact information. I'm interested in
doing research at the Save our Souls School for about one week in
early June. I've been awarded a research grant to conduct my studies
in teaching approaches and Tibet presents an interesting situation of
religious influence and social suppression by the Chinese. I would
really appreciate the opportunity to do research at the school. This
research would entail interviewing the teachers who work with the
children, the children, organization administration, and possibly
parents, observing the classroom in progress, and documenting the
conditions the children are in before and after the program. This
information would help immensely into understanding how best to teach
children who have faced a difficult past when trying to get an
education.
Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated and I look
forward to hearing from you!
Regards,
Ke Wu
Answer from Wade about volunteering at the SOS Tibetan Refugee School in Bylakuppe, India.
Hello Ke Wu,
I think I can help. I know that the SOS school accepts volunteers, as well
as some of the monasteries in Bylakuppe. I am currently on an archaeology
project in Honduras right now, so I do not have their contact information
off hand, but I can get it to you in a couple of days. The education that
the SOS school offers is really impressive, good choice for your research
project!
Will be in touch,
Wade
