For theatre lovers, there’s nothing more exciting than being in a position to book a trip to experience some of the world’s most amazing shows and bask in the drama of both new and never-before-seen shows in a completely different environment.
If seeing the world and experiencing some of the best talent the world has to offer is on your itinerary, but you’re not sure where you need to go, we’re going to look at a few destinations that will satisfy theatre lovers eager to pull up a seat and settle in to watch the show.
NYC
New York City has a lot of things going for tourists, but there is nowhere in the world that sets the standard of theatre, much like Broadway, Off Broadway, and Off-Off Broadway.
Whether you want to see some of the world’s top shows or you’re after something different and avant-garde, NYC is a hub of creativity and passion, and the cultural diversity ensures that there’s always something amazing to watch and new to see. If you want the best experiences and to immerse yourself in everything theatre, you want to pick a central hotel option in Manhattan that lands you right in the heart of everything.
London
Boasting iconic venues such as the West End and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, London has much to offer theatre enthusiasts.
London attracts a steady stream of visitors solely for the sake of visiting one of its many shows. Its ability to attract top talent means it’s never short of show-stopping productions, high-name stars, and diverse offerings on the stage.
Plus, like NYC, London isn’t just about the shows; you can see there are amazing sights and other tourist options for those times when there are no evening shows or matinees to keep you entertained.
Vienna
Vienna is home to some simply outstanding historic theatres, including the Burgtheatre and Vienna State Opera, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Vienna.
If you want to take in some classical theatre, opera, or ballet, you’ll be right at home in Vienna. But that’s not to say you can’t catch more contemporary offerings – the Volkstheatre is known for pushing artistic boundaries and delivering innovative performances. And in between shows, you can bask in the rich heritage of Vienna and do some sightseeing.
Beijing
Beijing, while not the top of most people’s travel lists when it comes to the theatre, is definitely somewhere you need to visit. For example, the “Egg” (the National Center for Performing Arts) hosts a diverse range of shows and performances from classic Peking Opera to more contemporary offerings, plus you can see shows in the vast selection of venues in Beijing, from small, intimate theatres to larger spaces that allow for bigger productions. If you want to immerse yourself in Chinese culture, then the Beijing theatre scene is a must-visit.
Paris
Paris tops most people’s wishlists for various reasons, and one of those reasons is its ability to present some of the world’s most opulent productions. If you want to see a show that has grandeur, history, and artistic excellence, then look no further than Paris. From the Opéra Garnier to Théâtre du Châtelet alongside a whole host of venues littered across the city, you can take in experimental works, discover new and emerging talents, and sit back for some truly awe-inspiring shows that make the trip worthwhile.
