I took these photographs in the Lake Atitlan region of Guatemala in the
spring of 2008. For more images from Guatemala please go to

Color chart that is suppose to indicate
the results of tests to find out if Lake Atitlan is safe to swim in. I did not
notice anyone testing the water.

Boats to San Pedro at their dockings in
Panajachel. Passenger boats run all day long. This dock is out of the center of
town a little.
Mayan clothes and textiles for sale in a
market in Panajachel, Guatemala.
Colorful Mayan textiles for sale in the
tourist market of Panajachel. The Mayan women here seem to have some kind of
minimum price agreement amongst each other, because everything they sell is
unilaterally expensive. Even an old worn out textiles are being sold for over
ten dollars. I highly doubt that the Guatemalans pay nearly this much for this
fabric. Guatemala seems to have their tourism industry down; from the hotels to
the Mayan women selling at the markets, the people here seem to really
understand the ebbs and flows of tourism. It is almost impressive.
