Stuffed Grape Leaf Roller Video

Stuffed Grape Leaf - Etli Yaprak Dolmasi Roller Video

Perhaps I am a sucker for a good street side show where a man sets up a little table, starts yelling and screaming, and then puts on a little show to sell some kind of miraculous gadget.

I am reminded of the old stories of wandering Chinese medicine vendors who would put on martial arts shows in the streets to attract a crowd to buy their miracle cures.

If a man yells in the street, I watch him.

Well this fellow in Sultanahmet was yelling his head off about some sort of gadget, so I listened. Looking down on his table I saw a row of rolled sticks that I initially took to be some odd sort of cigars. But they were rolled with grape leaves, not paper, and filled with rice, not tobacco.

I cannot say that I was as interested anymore, but I watched anyway.

This is a gadget to roll anything in a grape leaf.

Wade -- this is very likely sold to help folks make a very popular food item in this area: Dolma

Problems seem to be with the comments, not the video. It is very well done, audio and video! However, I am having problems leaving comments.

Thanks for testing this out for me.

Is anybody else having problems posting comments?

I monkeyed with the code a little yesterday, and it all seemed to be working fine, but you never can bee too sure. So if anyone else is having difficulty leaving comments, just email vagabondsong@gmail.com and I will fix it. Thanks.

Haha, yeah, Craig, I tried to quickly find the proper name for this stuff, but could only come up with the Turkish translation of "stuffed grape leaves."

Thanks,

Wade

I just came back from Turkey where I bought one of these gadgets in the Spice Bazaar. I'm eating leftover stuffed grape leaves we made yesterday. It takes a little technique, which my husband has better than I, but it works. It was well worth the 5 lire we paid.

They are pretty neat, eh? Chaya carried this frigging thing all through the Middle East to give a s a gift to her aunt. Well, her aunt now has it and nobody can figure out how to use it. I suppose we just need to watch this video again.

Well, if this lady Chaya's aunt does not want the gadget, can she sell to me. I know how to use it. If you are interested in selling it put a comment back here and I will contact you. AG
