A Cross America: spiritually intoxicated ex-addict walks from Maine to Mexico

This is the story of a refurbished drug addict walking from Maine to Mexico with a cross over his shoulder and a legally blind guitar playing companion by his side.

This is the story of spiritual intoxication in the context of modern America.

This is the story of a guy with twenty bucks in this pocket and a entire continent to walk on faith alone.

This is the story of two men on the slow road across the USA.

“Hey, it’s called the Cross Walk.”

Tom Helling walking down highway 1A outside of Bangor, Maine on the first full day of his pedestrian journey to Mexico.

A Cross America one step at a time.

I'm so happy to see this site but sorry that more people haven't left comments. I had the blessing of meeting Tom as he passed Route 1 in Massachusetts a few miles from Patriot Place (Gilette Stadium). But here is a real hero! Someone who's living out his faith in a courageous way, in a world that is often hostile to His message. THANKS TOM for setting an example for us all! May God bless you in your journey.

I hope this site will be updated to show your progress. Maybe God will lead others to post along the way.

Btw, the cross in this picture is clean white wood and when I signed it I could hardly find a space to scratch my name! You are touching many lives and giving us a visual reminder of the One who bore our sins on a tree.

    Hello Karen,

I transferred your comment onto the main article about Tom Helling's walk across the USA. If you follow the links in the above entry you can get to it, or go to this page http://www.vagabondjourney.com/journalism/walk-across-america

I should be meeting up with Tom tomorrow in CT for an update. Keep reading the travelogue and the featured stories sections of Vagabond Journey.com to keep up to date.

    Thanks

    Wade

I saw him today right near the intersection of Route 202 and Route 1 in PA around 11:50. I did not see a partner with him, I hope he is ok.
